Sustainable farm holidays at Babioshof

For generations we have taken pride and joy in cultivating the vineyards and apple orchards that surround our Babioshof farm. As farmers, we have a symbiotic relationship with nature, living and working according to the rhythm of the seasons. Nature is part of our daily lives, and we love it. So, working in a sustainable way is the obvious choice for us. From energy sources to transport, we have special consideration for the environment in everything we do.

We have a small farm shop where you can buy our products:

  • Fruit spreads
  • Syrups
  • Apple juice
  • Dried fruit
  • Herb salt

In tune with
the seasons

Every season has its own unique charm. Experience nature’s ever-changing beauty, from spring blossoms to winter’s white stillness.

A sea of pink and white petals, buds everywhere, and a sweet scent in the air. When nature awakens, follow Imma on a walk through the blossoming trees, on a guided tour of Kaltern or a wine-themed tour organised by the local Tourist Association.

The bright colours and inviting scents reveal the first fruits ripening under the sun. Here in the southern part of South Tyrol, summer carries a touch of Mediterranean lightness.

Michael and Stefan reap the fruits of their labour: ripe apples and juicy grapes. In autumn, the South Tyrolean landscape lights up with a triumph of colours – come and enjoy the show!

After months of hard work, it’s finally time to rest… a bit! When nature plunges into her wintry beauty sleep, we still tend to our apple orchards and vineyards, to make sure they keep growing healthily and bear fruit.

FAQ

Can guests experience farming life at the Babioshof?

Yes. Depending on the season and our workload, we are happy to give you an insight into our work in fruit growing and viticulture. During farm tours, you can learn more about our apple orchards, vineyards and the activities that take place on a South Tyrolean farm throughout the year. However, our work follows the rhythms of nature, the weather and the seasons, so our daily routine cannot always be planned in advance. During particularly busy periods, such as the harvest season, a farm tour may therefore not always be possible. We appreciate your understanding. Nevertheless, we are always happy to make time for a chat or to give you a little glimpse into everyday life on our farm.

Which hikes can you start directly from the Babioshof?

There are numerous hiking trails around Kaltern. From the farm, you can set off directly towards Altenburg and the Rastenbach Gorge, for example. And if Grandma Imma happens to be at the farm, she will be happy to share personal tips and recommendations for suitable hikes in the area – she is a qualified hiking guide after all.

Is the Babioshof a good starting point for a cycling holiday in Kaltern?

Yes. Around Lake Kaltern, through the vineyards and up towards the Mendel Pass, you will find a wide variety of cycling and e-bike routes. At the farm, you can also make use of a lockable bicycle storage room and an e-bike charging station.

How sustainable is a holiday at the Babioshof?

A responsible approach to nature is part of our everyday life as farmers. We generate a large share of our energy from environmentally friendly sources. We also focus on regional cycles and support climate-friendly mobility wherever possible.

How far is Lake Kaltern from the Babioshof?

Lake Kaltern is only around 5 kilometres from the Babioshof and can easily be reached by bicycle, bus or car. In summer, one of the warmest bathing lakes in the Alps is perfect for swimming and relaxing. Beautiful walking and cycling trails also lead around the lake through vineyards and apple orchards.
